EASTMAN CELLULOSE ACETATE BUTYRATE

Cellaburate USP/NF, EP

Brand ofEastman
Cellulose esters are prepared by esterifying cellulose with organic acids. The repeating anhydroglucose unit in the cellulose backbone contains three replaceable hydroxyl groups which can readily react with acetic and butyric acids to yield Cellulose Acetate Butyrate (C-A-B).

C-A-B, a hydrophobic polymer can be used as matrix former for tablets and in coating applications. The permeability of the film can be modified with addition of plasticizer, by including water as a co-solvent and by adjusting the coating film thickness.
