Nouryon was officially formed in October 2018 after AkzoNobel sold its specialty chemicals segment to Carlyle Group and GIC. The name Nouryon, is inspired by two of the company’s many pioneers, Jan Nourij and Gerrit van der Lande. Their headquarters are based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands with global presence in around 80 countries with a portfolio of industry-leading brands.
Nouryon’s diverse portfolio also includes products for pharmaceutical and personal care industry. In June 2020, they acquired the carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) business of J.M. Huber Corporation (CP Kelco). This has significantly broadened their portfolio of products in CMC, a sustainable, bio-based water-soluble polymer used as a thickener, binder, stabilizer, film former and matrix former for various pharmaceutical formulations.
